The sound of broken glass filled the room as Red looked at Creed. Creed held the knife in his right hand tightly as he heard Recluse on his ear piece. "Guys, there is another squad coming. I don't think we are going." She was cut off by Red. "Do not talk like that Recluse or I'll go up to where you are and kick your tan butt." The earpiece went silent as Creed knew Recluse was scared. This may be their last fight, Red leaned back against a knocked over table.
"Do you think Arthur is truly here?" He asked as footsteps rushed up the stairwell and a flash grenade was thrown into the 29th floor of the FBI building. "Now is not the time." Creed used the flash to hid his next move as he moved quickly putting speed to his feet and took out three SWAT members.
"Recluse Hail Mary at 12,1,4, and 2:30." Creed heard Red yell as the sound of buzzing bullets filled the room taking out four SWAT members. The room filled with the scent of death as Creed got slammed into the ground by a SWAT member. Red kicked flipped off a wall knocking a SWAT member's mask fall off his head to the ground.
Recluse looked though the scope of her sniper rifle as she took in a breath and shot as she sent six bullets into the building. She clicked her ear piece as she saw four solid black cars pull up to the FBI building along with a white van. She moved her scope and looked at the people getting out of the cars and van. Her mouth dropped as she snapped out of her shock and clicked her ear piece.
"Guys, get out now!" Creed and Red hear of their ear piece as they heard the horror in Recluse's voice. "What's wrong?!" Red asked as he looked out the shatter window to see the tall man in the military uniform. "Understood Recluse." Red looked at Creed and pointed at the window. Creed nodded his head as Red and him gave a thumb up to Recluse as they knew what they had to do.
Recluse put her gun away as she got ready to jump off the building, she stood there feeling the wind as she saw Red and Creed jump out of the window falling towards the ground and then disappear in the blink of an eye. She took in a breath and jumped as she enjoyed the free fall. She closed her eyes as she heard the gasp of people and someone yell.
She opened her eyes to see the wastelands and the man in black, the shadow man had returned to her and….
The shot gun of tapping came from the laptop as Summer let out a grunt, her head was throbbing and her jaw hurt as her back wisdom tooth started to come in pushing against her broken tooth. She shivered and continued to tap as she hummed under her breath trying to calm her nerves. Her hands shake fast as she tried to control her hands and type the words to the page but nothing came out like she wanted, just word vomit again. She went to slam the laptop close as she sat back in the chair and ran a hand through her dark brown hair.
She wanted to scream and yell from the medium sized hill a block away from her house but it was too late to be outside in the night. She bit her lip and drew blood as her head started to irritate her, she got up and turned on the radio. Maybe music can calm me down she thought as she tried not to think about all the stress that was taking place at the moment. She took in a breath and put her hair in a low ponytail as she closed her eyes and listened to the music. The house was quiet as she decided to go into the kitchen and get some Advil to help with her headache. "I hate it when I lose my muse." She mumbled under her breath as she made her way into the kitchen.
Summer opened one of the many cabinets and took down a bottle of Advil. The house was empty yet again she popped one Advil into her mouth as she grabbed a water bottle. She saw the note on the fridge and pulled it off the fridge as the small heart magnet fell to the tiled floor. She scanned the note and ripped to shreds. This was the fourth week her mother would not be home again due to her spending time with her 'other' family. Summer use to feel hurt and now she felt nothing but anger towards her mother.
Her mother lived her father and summer but her father and mother did not get along, but lived in the same house because her mother did not have enough money to move out. It was crazy when her father and mother were in the same room, they would always fight. Now her mother was too busy enjoying her new life while her father worked every hour he got to pay for Summer's college tuition. Summer hated seeing her father when he got home from work sometimes; he looked broken and tired like a doll that had been dragged through the dirt and snow. Alone, again always alone Summer thought as she turned on the TV in the living room and turned on the fake fireplace.
She started to watch the news as it hit her she left the laptop on in the spare room. "The laptop." She got up quickly and when to the spare room to see the laptop was still on but hot. "Thank god." She took the laptop unplugging the charger and carrying the laptop to the living room. "Let's see, how about the main villain goes insane?" She asked out loud as if someone would answer as no one answered. She balanced the laptop on her legs as she sat on the old wooden rocking chair that once belonged to her grandmother Olga. Olga had passed when Summer was six years old, Summer remembered her grandmother more than her real parents, maybe it was fact that Olga was always there for her granddaughter.
Summer started to type again as she was lost in the world of her own, She wondered if her parents knew her secret. They probably did not even know about Summer's little job, she smiled as she finished typing the new beginning to the second book in the Dreamer series. "Then Arthur realizes that it has been only 5 seconds since he met Recluse and that everything was a mind game. A trap to seal away his evil mad, god mod powers." She decided to turn off the laptop and write by hand, she placed the laptop back in the spare room as got a weird feeling.
She stood still and heard no noise, must be my imagination she thought as she placed the laptop back on the table in the spare room. The scent of pineapple and mango filled the room as she raised an eyebrow. She eyed the letter opener on the table and grabbed it just incase. She was nervous, what if someone broke into the house? Her hands started to shake as she could not hold the letter opener still. She wanted to say hello? But did not when she remembered that's how most people die in horror movies by saying hello is someone there?
She stood close near the walls as she scanned the area and rooms. Times like this she wished she had a guard dog. She saw a man in the living room; he was wearing a button up shirt and had a light green tie that did not match his over tan shoes. She went to relax but still held her guard, what is a man doing in my house? She hid the letter opener behind her back as she poked her head off of the corner and looked at the man.
The man fixed his tie and looked at her, "You must be Summer, Marie's daughter?" Summer did not like the tone of the man's voice. "And, what is it to you?" She spat as the man raised an eyebrow. "I am your mom's new boyfriend." She rolled her eyes and placed the letter opener on the small sofa in the living room. "Does it look like I care?" The man was taken back and was going to say something as he saw Marie come back inside come the garage.
"There is my little ray of sunshine." Marie went to hug Summer as Summer pushed her away. "Don't hug me." Summer stood there and was going to go to her room down the small hallway when her mother grabbed her arm and made her stay. "This is my daughter summer, Nathan. I hope she did not say anything bad or misbehave."
Summer looked at the man, so his name is Nathan? Great, another toy for my mother to play with she thought as she heard Nathan clear his throat and look at Summer. "She seems nice." Summer's mouth almost dropped as she glared at Nathan. Marie, Summer's mother smiled and let go of Summer and hugged Nathan. "I am glad most of the time Summer threatens." Summer started to feel sick by watching this game she already knew.
She went to her room and made her way to the small mini fridge in her closet. She moved some of the hanging clothes on the right side of her closet as there was her small mini fridge with some of her art work on it. She opened the small door and grabbed a can of soda. What is mom playing with this guy and why did he say I was nice? She through herself on her bed and enjoyed the softness of it. She tried to clear her mind as all the stress from the whole week came rushing to her mind as she prayed for sleep.
Sleep did not come as she prayed instead the stress haunted her mind. I am going to fail I know I am…She bite her nails as she tried to push away the negative thoughts. It was harder than it sounded as she lay on her back staring at her captain America poster on her room wall. She tugged on her hair as she let out a scream into her gray and red pillow. She finished and laid there on her belly like a seal, I should maybe write out my stresses maybe that will help. I remember Priscilla telling me something like that helps.
Summer grabbed a spare notebook from her huge tub of school supplies, she got a pen and started to write out her stresses trying to calm her nerves and mind. She wrote the last stress down as she saw black dots dance along her vision. She shut the notebook and decided to try to get some sleep. She grabbed the grey and black blanket and wrapped herself in it as she clapped her hand together turning off her room light.
The loud ringing of an alarm clock woke summer as she glared at the green blinking lights. She unplugged the alarm clock and rolled back over, wishing that it was the weekend. I should just stay home today she thought as she yawned and started to drift back to sleep. A knock at her door scared her as she got up and out of bed quickly. "What?" She answered as she opened her room door seeing Nathan standing there. "Do you want a cookie or something?" She rubbed her sleepy eyes as she saw Nathan look into her room. He saw the piles of clothes along the floor and the many books that laid in the room.
"Your mother wanted me to wake you up for school."
"Didn't my mother warn you I am not a morning person?" She went to slam the door as Nathan's foot stopped the door from shutting. "What the…What is your deal dude?" Summer glared at Nathan from the crack between the door and the wall. "Look, I do not know what I did to you summer but I just want to be here for your mother and you." Summer let out a chuckle and snorted, "Really? You got to be kidding me. Do you really think you are the first guy my mom dated that has told me that? Cute, anyway if you don't want a broken foot, move your foot now!" Nathan kept his foot there and let out a sigh.
"Summer you won't…" He let out a yelp of pain before he could finish his sentence. He cussed under his breath as he looked at the shut and locked room door. He noticed the sign that said BEWARE OF SUMMER SHE WILL BITE.
"Who does he think he is?" Summer let her emotions out as she walked to school. She was glad she left for school by going through her window instead of the front door. She walked down 4th street and made her way to Bloomfire high school home of the Phoenixes. She fixed her back pack and entered the school as decorated signs filled the hallways and lockers. Summer made her way to her locker and unlocked her neon green lock.
"Summer!" She was too busy putting her books away in her locker; she shut and locked her locker as she saw Jesse. "Hello Summer?" Jesse tugged on her light blue blouse as Summer looked at her. "huh?"
"Were you day dreaming again? Honey I swear you are always busy with your novels."
"Maybe and how are you Jesse? Sorry you know me."
"I am good just excited." Jesse explained as she pulled a flyer off a locker and handed it to Summer. "You better go Summer or I am going to kidnap you." Summer let out a chuckle as she looked at the flyer. "You want me to go to a dance?"
"Not any dance, the huge summer bash at the old mansion in downtown. The mansion is so beautiful I remember the last time I went. You have to come with me and who knows maybe you will even get a boyfriend!" Jesse winked as Summer blushed a little and looked down at the ground, "I do not have time for love or a boyfriend. I am busy Jesse you know with the whole Author gig and my parents' divorce papers." Jesse flicked Summer's forehead and pulled her cheeks, "Come on Summer it's a bash it starts at 7:30 and ends at 11:30. There's food, dancing, music, and of course boys! Besides that I hate seeing you pull off this whole recluse thingy. You need to live a little and actually get away from the laptop or iPod."
The bell rang as Summer folded the flyer and waved bye to Jesse as she went to the Library. The Library was quiet and there was only a few students hanging out in the room. "Maybe…" Summer was thinking about the dance as she was scribbling ideas in her head for the next chapter in her story. "Hey little miss au…" Summer looked up at the Librarian, John and glared at him. "Shhh." He let out a chuckle and looked at his Iphone. "So when is the new book coming out? I like what you pulled with the whole I faked my death scene." That brought a smile to Summer's face as she was glad she had a few fans who actually knew her true name instead of her pen name of Clara Rook.
"The next book Insanity will be coming out maybe the winter of next year, maybe spring? Depends if I do not lose my muse again." Summer opened her notebook and started to jolt down ideas for the second book in the Dreamer series. "Let's hope you do not lose your muse Summer. I want to know what is going to happen to…"
"Excuse me I need some help." John rushed back to the library's front desk to go help the student who looked lost. There were only four people on the whole campus of Bloomfire that knew Summer was an author, her best friend Jesse of course, the librarian John, Miss Narom and Eli her Ex. She hated that she told Eli she was an author but that was when they were still together, she wrote her first novel based on their relationship. That ship had sailed and sunk like the titanic breaking friendships and some family bonds. Her father was busy with work and did not know about her boyfriend while her mother on the other hand met his whole family.
Summer never liked it when her mother tried to get into her life, she did not care back then because she was blind by the curse of love as she called it. Eli was a sweet boy and they became a couple because their friends matched them. Her mother liked Eli and when they broke up thought it was Summer to blame. Summer drew on her notebook as she as trying to think what to write. It seemed today the characters were just not talking to her like they always do. No words hit the paper as she rested her chin on her hand. John was busy doing his librarian job of re-shelving books and helping people.
"John, do you have any good books I can read?" John looked up from the front desk to see Summer. "Ever heard of Stephen king?" John smiled as he saw the look of curiosity in her blue eyes. "First aisle, in the K section and look for book one in the dark towers series." She made her way to the first aisle and grabbed the first book. It was a pretty good read she was already half way done with the book as she heard the seven minute bell ring. She grabbed her bag and left the library. "See you John." John waved goodbye as Summer made her way from the library to her second period class. The day went quickly as she was often day dreaming about her characters in the Dreamers series.
She met up with Jesse at lunch time at their lunch table in the back on the room. "Jesse?" Summer asked as Jesse's face was all red. Jesse looked at Summer and had a weird smile plastered on her face. "You will not believe it."
"Some just asked me out, do you remember that skinny kid with the sandy colored hair. I think you called him Steve Rodgers freshmen year?"
"Yup! He asked me out, he is going to take me to the dance. I can not believe it, he asked me out. You know how long I have crushing on him." Summer smiled and hugged Jesse. "Congrats, then for your first date." Jesse excited as Summer was happy for her friend. Summer decided to write in her notebook as ideas came to her head. Her pencil hit the paper and everything started to come to life for her.
Sweat fell from Recluse's brow as she ran down the pathway, the dimension was closing and she only had a few seconds to get out before the dimension would close upon it's self. Her dark brown almost black hair stuck to her long white trench coat as she wrapped her arms around her chest and crashed through the window that would lead her back to her dimension. She rolled onto the hard ground panting as she heard the noises of the busy city; the sounds of cars driving by filled her ears. She was not able to enjoy the free fall this time as she laid there on the ground.
She looked around her surrounding to see she was in the alleyway behind the old bar. The scent of liquor hit her nose as she tried to get up but her legs gave away, dots danced along her vision as she fought her body. She focused on the street light in the distance as it flickered. "Damn it I was followed." She spoke under her breath as she leaned against the alley wall trying to regain her strength. The footsteps started to get closer as she turned around to see the metallic black helmet of the nightmare.
The nightmare moved quickly as its claws attacked Recluse, She did not panic but focused on her heart as her heart beats slower as time started to slow down. She dodged as she felt blood run down her nose. She was using too much of her powers. The nightmare studied her as it tilted its head in a mocking manner.
Pain hit Recluse's left arm as she hissed and knew she could only keep this up for a few more minutes. Adrenaline blasted through her veins as she knew she had to do what she hated to do more than fighting, she ran. The dark storm clouds over head brought the rain as her clothes stuck to her body. The crimson blood ran down her left arm as she put pressure on the cut.
She looked up at the night sky as if asking for some miracle to occur. Everything from the last year came back to her like a freight train. "Not now." Recluse said under her breath as she ran across a busy street into the darkness, trying to run away from her past and mistakes. They caught up to her as she hotwired a parked car, she got inside and placed her head on the steering wheel.
"Face it Recluse you are nothing more than a puppet." Arthur raised his hands. "You might think you won this game, but in reality I am the one who created everything." He slammed her into the wall as she tried to fight back. Everything around her became distorted as Arthur used his powers to manipulate the fabric of reality. Creed tried to open the door to save Recluse as the door was sealed shut.
He heard the yells and groans of pain; he rammed his body into the door as it knew he had to save his friend. She looked at the door as she felt her breath escape her lips; I am going to die she thought as Arthur's fist made contact with her ribs. She saw one opening and took it as she kicked Arthur in the face and run for the door.
Recluse lifted her head from the sterling wheel as the issue of the moment knocked the past from her mind. Where do I go now? Red, Creed and her had got separated in the last fray with the New World Order. She started the car as it hummed; she had to get away from this city. She had to find Megan; she would know what to do since the whole fall of Arthur. His betrayal had hurt the others of Demented but not Creed and Recluse. They knew from the first time they met Arthur Atticus that there was something dark lying under his happy go lucky mask.
"I hope they are all right." She mumbled as she turned on the car's radio and drove in the pouring rain. The nightmare followed her and looked at the car as it drove off, it looked at its claws it had gotten what it needed. It held the small vial that had two drops of blood. The nightmare put the vial into its belt and climbed the side of the apartment building to the rooftop. It made a growling noise as
The school bell ranged as Summer looked up from her notebook. Jesse let out a sigh and messed up Summer's hair as Summer put her stuff away and went to fifth period with Jesse. "Were you writing more? Summer you were writing and making faces."
"I was?" They made a turn towards the four hundred classrooms; Summer ran a hand through her hair. "Yes, you were writing like a crazy person." Jesse let out a giggle, as a tall girl blocked their path to their fifth period. "Well, look if it isn't the freak duo." Summer looked at the girl she knew too well. "Let us pass, you Jotun."
"What did you call me Freak?" The girl spat as Jesse hid behind Summer, "You heard me Chelsea you damn Jotun!" Chelsea raised her arm to hit Summer as Summer raised her arm. "Summer." Jesse whispered as she was scared. "Hit me." Summer said as Chelsea looked at her with shock in her brown eyes. "I am not afraid of you anymore and your blank bluffs." Summer walked past Chelsea as Chelsea grabbed Jesse. Summer turned on her heel and Chelsea smirked as she saw the anger in Summer's eyes. "Let me go." Jesse blurted as she was scared, the late bell ranged as Summer went to fight Chelsea as a young woman walked into the hall.
"Excuse me do you know where room 420 is?" The young woman asked as Summer took note of the spider web tattoo of the girl's right hip. "If you know what's good for you…" Chelsea stated as the girl looked at Chelsea and Chelsea took off running down the hall. "Summer." Jesse hugged Summer as the new girl walked down the hallway to her class.
"Who was that girl?" asked Jesse.
"I don't know but she scared that jotun." stated Summer
After school Summer was walking home when she saw the girl from earlier. The girl smiled while she put on some headphones and walked towards Summer. "Hey." Summer looked at the girl. She did not say any thing as the girl put a hand out. "The name's Zena, Zena Arcane." Summer was curious about this girl and looked at her. "Summer, Summer Vista." Zena nodded her head. "I have a question, why was that girl bulling you? She seemed to be targeting you for some reason."
They walked down 7th street towards the Red gate housing area. "I do not wanna talk about it." Zena zipped up her green jacket as a car drove by, hiding her tattoo. "Are you following me or do you live in Red gate?" Summer had noticed the way Zena was acting being quiet and observing her surroundings. She was hiding something, but why was she following Summer. "I live in Red gate." Zena let out a laugh. "Just moved here yesterday with my aunt, Are you paranoid or something Summer?" Zena stopped laughing as Summer did not laugh or say anything.
"So where you move from Zena?" Summer asked changing the topic as she saw Zena kick a small rock that was on the sidewalk. "I moved from Norwalk, a small city near LA. A lot of people don't really know where Norwalk is, so I just tell them LA." Summer rolled her eyes as she saw the silver car that was parked in the driveway. Her mother was home with Nathan still, Summer decided she did not want to go home. She had a strange feeling about Nathan, there was something about him she did not like but she could not put her finger on it. It more of a gut feeling, she watched as Zena pulled out her house keys.
"Summer, want to come over? The house is a mess but it would be nice if you could help me with algebra 2. Are you any good at it I get confused with all the letters and numbers?" Should I thought Summer as she remembered she just met this new girl Zena and did not know anything about her. She could be a serial killer Summer smiled. "Sure."
"Zena! You are home." Summer looked at the woman with the short red hair. "I brought a friend over, Auntie this is Summer, Summer my aunt Meg and yea." Zena placed her bag on the kitchen table that was filled with many packing boxes. Pots and pans were along the counter tops along with packing peanuts. Meg smiled and waved at Summer, "Hey welcome to our messy home. Make yourself at home and Zena you know the rules, no drinking unless I am home. Oh, Nico should be on his way home and I'll be leaving in a few minutes to work, you better behave you hear me missy."
Summer looked around and saw clothes were thrown about and the house was quite a mess. "Want something to drink?" asked Zena as she opened the gray fridge and held out a can of soda. "Sure, thanks." Zena tossed the soda can as Summer caught it. "Come on I'll show you my room. Oh, are you going to the dance thingy tonight? Sorry if I am asking a lot of questions I am probably rambling now great." Summer saw the door with the caution logo taped to the front with caution tape. "You are rambling and it is okay. So is your aunt always like that? So chilled I guess?"
"yea, she is always chilled. She lets my brother and I do whatever we want as long as we do not get trouble or arrested. Speaking of the devil he should be home soon, great."
"You don't like your brother?"
"He is well a jerk sometimes. Hopefully when he gets home from work he won't be a jerk and will be tired and goes to sleep." She pulled out a dark purple and black dress from a box. "There we go, I'll wear this tonight." Summer sat on the Neon red bed as Zena was going through the boxes in her room looking for what to wear to the dance. Summer saw a small black bag in the closet as she swore she saw a bullet on the floor. She looked back at the floor to see nothing but a neon green and orange sock. "I should get going home now, thanks for inviting me over Zena." Zena's head popped up as she held up a pair of combat boots. "K'ay I guess I see you at the dance if you are going Summer. Be safe getting home and if you need anything you know where my house is now."
Summer walked inside her house to see Nathan sitting on the living room couch, she fixed her bag and went into her room. "Summer!" She heard her mother yell as she shut the door and brought out her notebook. "Summer, come out here and say sorry to Nathan!" Her mother yelled as Summer turned on the radio full blast almost blowing out her speakers. "Summer?"
Summer brought out a pencil and started to write again. She heard a knock at her door as she lowered the radio and hummed. She did not want to deal with Nathan or her mother, she just wanted her father to be home. She wanted her mother to move out and for this drama to end she wanted a normal life instead of this drama of hell in a blender.
She went to start writing as the idea left her mind leaving her empty for a few minutes. She lay on her stomach and looked at her closet. The dance doesn't start until eight she thought as she wondered what she was going to wear. She knew she had to show up or she would never hear the end of it from Jesse. She closed her eyes and relaxed for a little while, she had to escape reality for a little bit.
